Job Title: QS / Estimator
Department: Estimating & Pre-Contracts
Reports to: Senior Management

Role Overview:

The QS / Estimator is responsible for coordinating tender bids and pre-contract activities, including reviewing project documentation, preparing take-offs, and ensuring a smooth handover and presentation of tender bids to the team. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and acknowledge tender documents and amendments.

  • Extract information for subcontract and material packages.

  • Select appropriate subcontractors and material suppliers.

  • Implement and ensure compliance with tendering processes.

  • Input pricing documents into the estimating system and apply accurate cost rates.

  • Respond to queries from subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Liaise with the client team during the tender process and arrange meetings as needed.

  • Identify opportunities for design alternatives and value engineering, consulting with the bid team.

  • Evaluate and appraise subcontractor and supplier quotations.

  • Price preliminaries in collaboration with management.

  • Highlight any areas of concern or risk in cost proposals.

  • Complete and submit Form of Tender and tender letters, incorporating any qualifications.

  • Maintain accurate records of final tender information in the tender log.

  • Prepare and hand over detailed information packages to the construction team upon successful bids.

  • Participate in handover meetings to brief the team on tender bids.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and specifiers to enhance tender opportunities and margins.

  • Attend post-tender negotiations with clients.

  • Assist with cost planning and project debriefing, incorporating feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Identify and manage project-related risks.

  • Develop and maintain a strong supply chain network.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Estimating or Quantity Surveying.

  • Experience in a Medium Voltage (MV) / High Voltage (HV) organization is desirable.

  • A Level 7 Degree (or higher) in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
